These photos depict a subject that is not only disgusting, but absolutely not necessary.

When people can stop identifying with their countries and consider themselves citizens of the world community instead, this degree of suffering will stop.

I honestly believe the concept of countries and boundaries have always given people the excuse not to take responsibility for others beyond their borders. I just can’t do this. Every time there is a tsunami in the South Pacific, an earthquake in Asia, of a Cyclone in China, my heart weeps for these people.

When your country and Iraq were at war for years in the 1980s, it was a loss to the entire globe, not just the two nations.

In most parts of the world, people really care about others. When they hear an earth quick in China, they feel sorrow for the victims.

However, governments act politically. They try to use these events in their own interests.

I believe part of the poverty in the world is because of injustice. Poverty is everywhere. I have seen many people sleeping in the streets in NYC. The same is true within Iran. And here, we have other problems that intensify poverty and life issues.

And thanks for Iran-Iraq war feelings. I feel the same for innocent American soldiers in Iraq. I have seen some of them during my trip to US. Most of them are really brainwashed by the Bush administration. I also noticed that part of these soldiers are those who applied for the US green card. US government issues the card on the condition that they serve in the army in Iraq! Many of the never get the chance to see the card anyway.

Glenn, in that war most of the western countries helped Saddam by providing information and weapons including chemical mass destruction weapons! And in Iraq there are people who are still suffering from those chemicals. Once in a while, you hear they pass away.

I believe that is the bottom line my friend. I have found in my country, only those with gigantic egos get into politics and the government. Many of them are basically “White Collar Criminals.” I guess that’s true in the other countries as well.

I believe when Obama becomes president here in January, he will take the necessary steps to bring a lasting peace between Tehran and Washington. He is a very rational feeling person. And this bothers the Republican war mongers here terribly.

BTW: The homeless situation in NYC is frightening. I don’t know if you were there in the winter when they freeze and sleep in empty refrigerator cartons or underground where there is much disease and rats. It makes me cry.

I donate $15 dollars a month to this local organization that helps the homeless. They have nice and clean shelters, nutritious food and help them find jobs. I mean, $15 dollars is not a hell of a lot, and I can’t understand why every American don’t do that. It’s the price of two hours in a bar or dog food for an entire month.

I also hope that Obama will take proper steps not only to bring peace to the world but also to restore the US prestige in the world. To bring democracy back to US again. I hate when I feel that government is controlling people by listening their phone calls and reading their emails . . .
This could be expected in a dictator system such as Saudi Arabian Kingdom, but it is really a shame for the US society.

I was in NYC in warm weather but you can guess what happens in the winter. It is again a shame for a government with a wealth of US to have these homeless, hungry, and without any health support people in the heart of a metropolitan area.

It is very good idea to help them as much as you can. But it is mainly the government duty to take care of them. Same problem, and worse, exist in this part of the world!

I once heard a Christian minister say about 90 percent of the people go to hell. Since the true definition of hell is the separation from God, I believe him. I see it every day and just shrug.

Nice point!! These clergymen, in any religion, are the main builders of hell in this world and I don’t know about the other world, but I guess they will be part of that too.

I can’t stop crying, my heart breaks for these people. Especially the children.

Did you know the US has 5% of the world’s population but used over 30% of its resources?

I feel ashamed that I have so so so much when so many others have nothing. I feel stupid for worrying about what my boyfriend’s friends think about me or if its time to get new highlights in my hair again. This photo display really makes me view my life in an entirely different way.
Nice to hear from you! I was worried about you and was thinking to send you an email.
You have really a kind heart. I hope one day others could feel same as you do. In that case the earth would be a real heaven.
Consumption is a main part of capitalism, otherwise they can not run their business. People work day and night to just go and shop extra things that they may never even use them.
I was telling Glenn that I have seen poverty in NYC too. Yet they spend so much funds on weapons each year just to take human lives. If only a very small part of that money was spent on poverty, the whole problem was gone long time ago.

I might be grateful to be an American, but I’m clearly not proud of it, not considering our deep history of hurting others, which includes slavery, KKK lynchings, sexism, homophobia, Antisemitism, disregard for the needy, imperialism, the Vietnam and Iraq Wars and the entire tenure of Bush & Cheney.

Excellent, I wish most Americans knew what you mentioned!
