A prayer by Shariati

Posted by Parsin on January 2, 2009

My Lord,
grant me success in struggling during failure,
in having patience in disappointment,
in going alone,
in Jihad without weapons,
in working without pay,
in making sacrifice in silence,
in having religious belief in the world,
in having ideology without popular traditions,
in having faith (Iman) without pretensions,
non-conformity without immaturity,
beauty without physical appearance,
loneliness in the crowd,
and
loving without the beloved knowing about it.

Now this is more like it and what I would expect from people of my own faith.

The poem brought peace to me and my parents when I read it to them. The picture of the woman holding up a peace sign will have far more of a positive impact on the world than the others from yesterday showing casualties in Gaza. All they do is instigate trouble and bring up rotten feelings in others. More radical Muslims would misinterpret them as a call to even more violence. I know that’s not what you people want to accomplish on this blog.

My favorite line from the poem is “in Jihad without weapons” because I don’t think Allah’s concept of Jihad was about violence. My parents always taught me he was speaking about battling the devils within each of us.

    englishanne,
Thanks, Muslims have learned peace and coexistence by the teachings of Islam. However, they will defend themselves whenever they are attacked as we see it in Gaza today. Palestinians are peaceful people and the history of these people is a prove for this claim. Zionists since 1948 invaded their country and took over their lands and started a war that is still going on.
The solution is simple, let the Palestinians get back to their country and together with other settlers including Jews and Christians make a government of their own through a democratic process!
Ask yourself, why US and some European countries that call for democracy in all over the world oppose it in Israel????!!!

“Ask yourself, why US and some European countries that call for democracy in all over the world oppose it in Israel????!!!”

The reason is because the Jews were the original settlers in Israel back in ancient times. They were sold into slavery and it took them centuries to return. Also, the UN declared both Palestine and Israel would exist as two states in 1948. The UN is composed of nations from around the world other than the U.S. and Europe. Except for Hamas, the legitimate Palestinians of the Palestine Authority favor separate states coexisting peacefully.

I’m afraid you have been brainwashed by your Iranian upbringing. My grandfather told me last night that Iran and Syria are like the old Soviet Union and bring up their children to think exactly like you. Since they are both orthodox religious states, there is no freedom of speech or any room to question the teachings of your societies.

I am a graduate student at Oxford in the United Kingdom. It is the best school in the country. One of the things the professors keep harping on is having an independent mind of your own. They even encourage us to question what our government and even they teach us and do all the research we need to in order to uncover the truth.

If you lived in a free country where everything wasn’t under control of the religious authorities, you would be a freer individual.

This is the most stupid reason I have ever heard!!
The Jews who came to Palestine were Europeans who did not know where Palestine is. On the other hand if you think the original owners could claim their lands after 3000 years!! (in case of Palestinian Arabs have always been the settlers) then take your ass out of US. That country belongs to American Indians!!!

You and your grandfather are damn wrong!! As you see we have access to all types of information through Internet and satellite channels beside many newspapers in our country. When I watch CNN or Fox news I can see how they brainwash you and many others like you.

I didn’t mind to check your IP address which shows you are living in Boynton Beach, Florida !!!

I have lived half of my life in US if you call that country a free society!! In which with all respect to US people I have many questions about it. . . A country with Guantanamo, with Hiroshima and Nagasaki, with Abu Graib, with . . . in its file could not be considered a free and democratic country. A country that approves massacre by Zionists in Gaza could not own democratic values.

Where does my IP address tell you that I live? I want to see if it’s accurate.🙂

Anyway, thanks for the great work you are doing here. I am encouraged as more and more people are finding out the truth.

You can check it through many IP address service providers like this one. After you enter type the IP address that you want to check.
    Good Luck!
