Gaza: The Meaning of Israeli Cease-Fire

Posted by Parsin on January 18, 2009

JERUSALEM – Prime Minister Ehud Olmert says Israel will unilaterally halt its 22-day offensive against Hamas but keep troops on the ground in Gaza for the time being.

It is very clear that Israel is defeated and that is the the main reason for this brutal regime to call for a unilateral cease fire. Otherwise, they could continue their crimes as they did in the last 22 days.

It is also obvious that the cause of cease fire declaration by Israel is not by any means a humanitarian. It is not also due to the pressure by international powers. In fact, there was more pressure at the first 10 days than there is now.

The sole reason is the fact that Israel was unable to gain any military objectives in Gaza after 22 days and nights of murdering innocent and defenseless people. Israeli prime minster must be proud of killing nearly 500 innocent children by the most sophisticated weapons delivered by the US government.

On the other hand, given the current situation it seams that the call for cease fire by Israel is a change in war tactics which was reached through recent meetings with Condoleezza Rice. The fact is that Israel has been unable to stop Hamas attacks on Israeli towns after more than three weeks of fighting. This was their primary objective that they claimed would reach in first couple of days since the started the war. They reached none of their goals that mentioned earlier when they started and continued the war. Now, by the so called cease fire, they are asking Hamas to stop their attacks while Israeli army stays in Gaza!!

On the other hand, Israel is putting Hamas in a sensitive situation. If Hamas does not go by the cease fire, Israel will strike back putting Hamas on the edge of condemnation by Gazans.

Regardless of current circumstance, the cease fire will make Gazans a captive for some unlimited time. They will be in a large prison with the least control on their own situation. All gates will stay closed while Israel is inside to monitor every movement in Gaza! This means restricted supply of food, medicines, and other necessary supplies for a minimum living for unlimited time. It means that although Israel reached nowhere by killing more than 1200 and injuring more than 6000 in just 22 days, but Gazans also lost their families, their kids, and homes and gained nothing. That is the main reason why Hamas will not and must not accept this Israeli tactic.

  1. Israel unilaterally declared a ceasefire yesterday. Of course it quickly vanished when Hamas fired five rockets into Israel. Hamas does not want to cease fire unless it is on their therms. They are concerned about looking defeated in the eyes of the Arab world. In truth, they have been defeated from a military standpoint. The vanishing Israeli cease fire

Please be careful. What you are saying sounds like racism.
Zionism is different than Judaism. Although Zionists abuse the religion but they are not the same.
